Spring Awakening

I have started thinking about warmer weather, and where I want to go to paint this Spring. To that end, I decided to do this painting: "Spring Awakening" 24 X 30. I hold Cape Cod very near and dear to my heart, and am looking forward to walking the beaches, and just being on the water again! I hope you like this painting. It is a composite of thoughts I had about the changing seasons and things turning green again.

231 Color

I just finished this, and got it back from the framer for my upcoming show at Gay Street Gallery with Andrew Morgan, Rebecca Quinn, and Yvonne Jarrell that opens this Saturday: January 9 (reception from 4-7pm). This is a great barn that sits off of Rt 231. It catches the morning light perfectly! The painting is 24 X 36, oil on canvas.

"Along Ben Venue" 20 X 20

I love this blue barn! I have painted it three times from three different angles. The 1000 weathered-blue-shades just grab me every time I drive by this barn (on Ben Venue Rd).

Bell Tower 20 X 20 oil on canvas

"Bell Tower" is a Baptist church on the edge of town. This a part of a new series of paintings where I want to talk about the experience of walking by a building, and only being partially aware of its details, but aware enough to feels its presence next to you. It is also about wanting to give the composition more of a presence.  Hope you like it!

"On the Shenandoah"

On my last trip down the Shenandoah River, I saw a lot of turtles taking advantage of the fallen trees, and sunning themselves in the August heat. It caused me to really look at these trees and see that they were helping new life/things to grow. These beautiful dead trees were having a second life! Thats what I have tried to capture in this painting. This painting is 12" X 24" and is available.

Across the Field 20 X 20

As Fall color consumes the mountains around me, I find it a little funny not focusing on that; but instead to have just finished working on a painting of early Spring. This is from a trip to the Eastern Shore of Maryland, near Oxford, MD. I was drawn to not only the colors of the early greens, but also the rhythm of building on the horizon.

Working on Location

I got permission to spend some time painting on location on a beautiful historic farm here in Rappahannock County: Mount Vernon Farm. This is one of the paintings that was started there, and finished in my studio.
